Is anyone else feeling the heat lately? Whew! It’s going to be another scorcher here in New England today. Do you ever feel you’re still laggy and underhydrated despite meeting your daily water quota? We totally get that! And how frustrating it is! Lemon water with sea salt is what we’re drinking to maintain our hydration. We enjoy this beverage any time, but it’s especially terrific when you’re feeling low on electrolytes. Whether it’s due to heat, illness, having a little too much fun the night before, or just generally feeling like your everyday water isn’t doing enough for you, this will put you on the right path to optimal hydration. The combination of lemon and sea salt in the water will help balance the levels of potassium and sodium in your body while also assisting the body in absorbing the water.
We’ve written this recipe for one serving as we often make it for just ourseelves, but it is certainly possible to scale up the recipe to make more than one drink at a time.
Equipment
A tall drinking glass
Kitchen knife
Juicer or citrus squeezer
Measuring spoons
Ingredients
1/2 of a lemon
1/8 teaspoon of Himalayan Pink Sea Salt or Sea Salt (avoid table salt)
8 to 12 ounces of water
To Serve
Lemon slices or other fruit for garnish (optional)
Method
- Cut your lemon in half and juice it—reserve the other lemon half for another use. Pour your freshly squeezed lemon juice into your drinking glass.
- Measure 1/8 teaspoon of salt and add to your lemon juice.
- Add 8 to 12 ounces of water to your glass.
- Add ice and garnish if you wish.
Cheers!
